My couch to 5k journey

Wondering what it’s like to take on the couch to 5k journey? Bee has written a great blog about her experience - thanks Bee!

Last year, I somehow got talked into joining the couch to 5k being run by Skelmersdale Boundary Harriers.  I will openly admit, I am not one of life's natural runners.

When we started I could barely complete the first 30 seconds of the run/walk intervals, but the support you got from Adie, Jimmy and Sally helped so much.  We also received additional support later on from Karolina, Peter, Tommo, Paul and Ursula.

To my surprise, I completed the full 12 weeks and was officially classed as a runner, but I didn't feel like one.  I didn't have the confidence to continue and was offered the chance to complete the C25K sessions for a second time, obviously without graduating.

Second time round everything was much better, I started to feel in a better place, and running with boosts towards the end really helped.  It gave me the push I needed to decide to join the club to help keep me going.

I also made a few good friends while training, and we still go out on our regular Tuesday run (excluding the really speedy ones!) which was one of our 3 for the week.

Everyone who is involved in the C25K set up is really helpful and supportive and I highly recommend anyone who is thinking about trying, to just give it a go.  You might just surprise yourself.

Kind regards

Belinda (Bee) Watson
